PowerJet announces the first successful results of the SaM146 flight test campaign
Singapore, February 18, 2008
PowerJet, a joint-venture between Snecma (SAFRAN Group) and NPO Saturn announced today the first successful results of its SaM146 engine flight test program.
The flight test campaign started on December 6, 2007 on LII Gromov's IL-76LL flying laboratory in Zhukovsky, Russia. To date, the engine has completed a total of 42 flight hours (22 flights) and additional ground tests under the wing as well, achieving all expected performance objectives.
The flight tests performed during the campaign were: opening of flight test envelope, validation of engine performance and operability, validation of restart logic and relight in wind milling, demonstration of acceleration and deceleration time capability and flame out margin within the specifications, validation in flight of FADEC software, validation of fan blade flutter margin in flight, verification of the engine general behavior, including stress and vibration levels.
Tests will continue to further accumulate data for engine certification, which requires a total of 150 flight hours. The second part of the tests is scheduled to be carried out in the second quarter of 2008.
Concurrently, two compliance engines have already been delivered to Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, ready for the first flight of the Superjet 100 regional aircraft.
The SaM146 is designed specifically for regional jets of the new generation. It features the most up-to-date design based on the experience of the two mother companies Snecma and NPO Saturn, and the close partnership that they have built to bring this programme to success. The SaM146 specific characteristics are high dispatch reliability, low maintenance costs, low fuel consumption, as well as full compliance with existing and future environment standards set forth by ICAO.
PowerJet, founded in July 2004, is a joint venture of Snecma (SAFRAN Group) of France and NPO Saturn of Russia. The company is in charge of the SaM146 engine program management, including development, production, marketing and sales, as well as customer support and MRO services. In April 2003, the SaM146 engine was selected by Sukhoi Civil Aircraft to power its Superjet 100 regional jet.
