CFM to Offer Tech Insertion Upgrades in Second Half of 2008
Singapore - February 19, 2008
CFM International will begin offering Tech Insertion upgrades to current CFM56-5B and CFM56-7B operators in the second half of this year, bringing all of the benefits of these advanced technology enhancements to mature fleets.
CFM56 engines are produced by CFM International (CFM), a 50/50 joint company between Snecma (SAFRAN Group) and General Electric Company.
CFM has identified four unique upgrade configurations matched to customers' specific requirements.
The full Tech Insertion upgrade kit will include new compressor, combustor, and high pressure turbine hardware which will provide better fuel burn, longer time on wing, enhanced durability, lower maintenance costs, and the ability to meet the new International Civil Aviation Organisation's CAEP/6 emission regulations.
In addition to the full upgrade, operators can choose from a high-pressure compress kit scheduled for certification in the second quarter 2008; a high-pressure turbine upgrade; or the new low-pressure turbine nozzle. All of these hardware configurations will be installed at normal overhaul.
CFM56 Tech Insertion upgrades will provide operators with longer time on wing through up to 15° C improved exhaust gas temperature margin and lower deterioration. The upgrades will also help reduce maintenance costs by between five and 12 percent, depending on the thrust rating, through enhanced durability.
